Their chai latte, served in beautifully crafted Julie Damhus cups, is a personal favorite and makes each visit feel extra special.
Beyond baked goods, Flere Fugle has expanded its offerings over time. Now, you can grab a pizza in the evenings and even enjoy a glass of wine from neighboring Fire Tyve, which opens its doors in the warmer months. The space is equally inviting on a quiet weekday when you need a good spot to work or unwind.
Whether you're picking up a loaf of bread or settling in for a meal, Flere Fugle captures the essence of Nordvest’s evolving food scene.
Kaffedepartementet – For the True Coffee Enthusiasts
Kaffedepartementet is a paradise for coffee lovers, roasting their beans on-site to ensure top-quality brews. The industrial yet welcoming space on Rentemestervej is great for both solo coffee breaks and catching up with friends. Outside, their seating area is ideal for people-watching or enjoying a moment of calm with a warm drink, no matter the season.
Though the coffee is undoubtedly the main event, their tebirkes deserve just as much attention. A trusted friend once claimed they were the best in Denmark, and after trying them myself, I have to agree—or at the very least, they’re the best in Copenhagen.
Kaffedepartementet may not have the same buzz as Flere Fugle across the street, but it carries a quiet confidence, making it a go-to for coffee purists and pastry lovers alike.
Bagt – A Reliable Spot for Pastries & Bread
With only three locations in Copenhagen and a few more in North Zealand, Bagt is a small bakery chain that manages to maintain a cozy and independent feel. Their Nordvest location has a slightly roomier setup than your average bakery, with a touch of Parisian charm that makes it a pleasant place to sit and relax.
The pastries and bread are consistently well-made, offering a solid choice if you're looking for a dependable bakery experience. While nothing is particularly groundbreaking, everything is executed well, from their croissants to their tebirkes. It was at a Bagt location in Gilleleje that I first tried a "fragilité," a coffee-flavored cream pastry that surprised me by being delicious—even as someone who doesn’t usually like coffee!
If you’re nearby and craving something sweet or a fresh loaf of bread, Bagt is a safe bet.
Skruens – Small but Mighty for Sourdough Lovers
Tucked away on Mågevej, Skruens is a tiny bakery that I was surprised to discover during a deep dive into local bakeries. Their focus is simple but effective: a selection of loaves, bread rolls (including poppyseed and sesame), and a few pastries. The star of the show is their sourdough, which tends to sell out early on weekends—so if you want to get your hands on one, be sure to go in the morning.
One unique aspect of Skruens is its "pay-it-yourself" system, allowing customers to transfer payment directly without interacting with a cashier. Of course, you can still pay by card or cash if needed. As a fun bonus, they sell pizza dough every Friday, perfect for making homemade pizza without the hassle of preparing the dough yourself.
Skruens might be small, but for those who appreciate great bread, it’s a gem worth seeking out.
