Tucked away on a small side street in Nordvest, Høtoft is the kind of place you’d only stumble upon if you were really paying attention—or if, like me, you happened to go to the neighborhood’s now long-gone Irma. I first walked into Høtoft on a whim one evening not long after they opened, not knowing what to expect. From the outside, the location might not scream prestige—but don't let that fool you. This little wine shop is an absolute gem.
Høtoft specializes in central and eastern European wines—think Slovenia, Hungary, Georgia, and more. As someone who’s been a fan of Slovenian and Georgian wines for years, having a place like this so close by feels like a luxury. It’s the kind of spot where you walk in planning to buy one bottle and somehow walk out with three, each more intriguing than the last.
The shop is run by a couple whose passion for these wines shines through in every recommendation. Whether you come in with a very specific request or just a vague idea (which is more my style), they'll guide you with care and patience. What I particularly love is how they describe the wines—no over-the-top, flowery language, just straightforward, evocative descriptions that actually help you imagine what you're about to taste.
Some of my recent finds include a beautiful Riesling from Rheinhessen and a Hungarian Pinot Noir that I’m still eagerly waiting to open.
A little heads-up before you visit—Høtoft's opening hours are a bit limited, especially if you work a 9-to-5 job. They're closed Sunday to Tuesday, and the rest of the week they’re only open in the afternoons. But trust me, leaving work early to browse their shelves is absolutely worth it.
PS: If you're a fan of Vin de Table, annother fantastic wine shop in the area, you'll be happy to know that some of their bottles come straight from Høtoft’s selection!
