Nordvest Stories: Esben and the Everyday Work of Rødder
When I arrive at Rødder on a bright Wednesday morning to interview Esben, the room is filled with that kind of late-morning sunlight you don’t get often in November. It’s the pre-lunch atmosphere where the food is nearly ready and the team is assembling the last details so the first guests get dishes straight out of the oven. Carina, head of communications at Rødder, hands me a cup of warm, floral tea.

Nordvest Stories: Martin’s Café, Where Football Meets Family and Community
In a small corner of Nordvest, right by the football fields of B.K. Union, there’s a café that doesn’t quite feel like any other. Throughout the week, you can smell the aroma of coffee and the warmth of a local dish from the kitchen, hear the sound of kids shouting outside, and spot Martin, the do-it-all man behind the place. He moves constantly between the stove, the counter, and the crowd. He’s not a chef in the traditional sense, nor a manager behind a laptop. He’s something else entirely — a quiet force of transformation in his community.

When I first discovered Nordvest years ago, there weren’t many places that stood out the way Vin de Table did. It was one of the first spots I noticed before even moving here — a real wine shop on Frederiksundsvej, not a kiosk shelf or supermarket corner. It sold natural wine before that was common in the area, and there was something about it that made it pop out from the street.

Nordvest Stories: Lovis Engel and B Lab Nordics in the Garage
When I started my blog back in March, something else was also opening in Nordvest: Thoravej29, the community space that decided to celebrate its launch with 29 days of events. A lot of those events were in Danish, but I managed to find a couple where language wasn’t a barrier. One was a Monday morning dance party at 7am — and honestly, it was the best start to a week I’ve ever had (more of that, please!). The other was a run/walk with B Corps (catered afterward by Meyers with some BMOs, of course). I was glad I chose the walking group rather than running, because it meant I could actually talk to people along the way. That’s how I ended up chatting with Gitte, Manager at B Lab Nordics. A few months later, when I was looking for people to talk to about life and work in the neighborhood, she connected me with her colleague and fellow Nordvest fan, Lovis Engel.
