A Guide to Nordvest’s Best Bakeries & Pastries
Updated: Mar 8, 2025
Nordvest has no shortage of excellent bakeries, each offering something special. Whether you're looking for the perfect sourdough loaf, a flaky pastry, or a cozy spot to sip a coffee, this guide highlights the best places to satisfy your cravings.
Flere Fugle – A Nordvest Staple for Bread, Pastries & More
Since opening in early 2022, Flere Fugle has cemented itself as a must-visit in Nordvest. On weekend mornings, expect a lively crowd, with people lining up for their incredible bread and pastries. Their chai latte, served in beautifully crafted Julie Damhus cups, is a personal favorite and makes each visit feel extra special.
Beyond baked goods, Flere Fugle has expanded its offerings over time. Now, you can grab a pizza in the evenings and even enjoy a glass of wine from neighboring Fire Tyve, which opens its doors in the warmer months. The space is equally inviting on a quiet weekday when you need a good spot to work or unwind.
Whether you're picking up a loaf of bread or settling in for a meal, Flere Fugle captures the essence of Nordvest’s evolving food scene.
Kaffedepartementet – For the True Coffee Enthusiasts
Kaffedepartementet is a paradise for coffee lovers, roasting their beans on-site to ensure top-quality brews. The industrial yet welcoming space on Rentemestervej is great for both solo coffee breaks and catching up with friends. Outside, their seating area is ideal for people-watching or enjoying a moment of calm with a warm drink, no matter the season.
Though the coffee is undoubtedly the main event, their tebirkes deserve just as much attention. A trusted friend once claimed they were the best in Denmark, and after trying them myself, I have to agree—or at the very least, they’re the best in Copenhagen.
Kaffedepartementet may not have the same buzz as Flere Fugle across the street, but it carries a quiet confidence, making it a go-to for coffee purists and pastry lovers alike.
Bagt – A Reliable Spot for Pastries & Bread
With only three locations in Copenhagen and a few more in North Zealand, Bagt is a small bakery chain that manages to maintain a cozy and independent feel. Their Nordvest location has a slightly roomier setup than your average bakery, with a touch of Parisian charm that makes it a pleasant place to sit and relax.
The pastries and bread are consistently well-made, offering a solid choice if you're looking for a dependable bakery experience. While nothing is particularly groundbreaking, everything is executed well, from their croissants to their tebirkes. It was at a Bagt location in Gilleleje that I first tried a "fragilité," a coffee-flavored cream pastry that surprised me by being delicious—even as someone who doesn’t usually like coffee!
If you’re nearby and craving something sweet or a fresh loaf of bread, Bagt is a safe bet.
